Independent technical support for purchase, valuation, insurance, dispute resolution and supervision of pleasure craft
Ceccarelli Yacht Design & Engineering provides marine survey and technical consultancy services through an independent, rigorous approach focused on the effective protection of the client’s interests.
Giovanni Ceccarelli has been active for over twenty years in the field of marine consultancy and inspection, with specific expertise in sailing and motor pleasure craft.
The value of this service lies not only in verifying the apparent condition of the vessel, but in the ability to assess in depth its technical, constructional and maintenance aspects, thereby providing the client with genuine support in the most delicate decisions: purchasing, negotiating, insuring, managing a damage claim, dealing with a dispute, or properly overseeing new construction, refit or repair works.
Qualifications and Areas of Activity
Giovanni Ceccarelli is registered with the Order of Engineers of the Province of Ravenna under no. 848, is listed in the technical register for naval construction of the Maritime Authority of Ravenna as a naval engineer under no. 90, and serves as a court-appointed technical consultant for the Courts of Ravenna, Rimini and Bologna. He is also a full member of ASPRONADI, a Lloyd’s correspondent for pleasure craft, and an associate member of SNAME. The studio provides survey and technical consultancy services in a range of areas, including pre-purchase surveys, commercial and insurance valuations, damage assessments, supervision of new builds, refit and repair works, compliance checks with the Recreational Craft Directive, safety-related technical inspections, and technical assistance in legal and forensic matters.
Pre-Purchase Surveys
A pre-purchase survey is one of the most important tools for the proper assessment of a new or pre-owned yacht, whether sailing or motor.
Its purpose is to enable the client to make an informed decision on the basis of an independent technical analysis clearly identifying the actual condition of the vessel, any issues detected, the recommended corrective actions and the possible financial implications arising from them.
Inspections are carried out using dedicated equipment and on the basis of extensive sector experience. At the end of the inspection, a technical report is issued identifying the vessel, recording its data and the available documentation, describing its overall condition, and highlighting any defects, anomalies or aspects requiring further investigation. Unless otherwise requested, the report may also include an assessment of the vessel’s market value.
Scope of Inspection
The inspection focuses on the principal elements that determine the vessel’s safety, efficiency, reliability and value. These include the hull above and below the waterline, visible internal structures, keel attachment, rudder and steering system, machinery, shaft line and propulsion components, deck fittings, mast, boom and rigging, deck, coachroof and cockpit, gas and electrical systems, tanks, bilges, anchoring and mooring arrangements, hatches, doors, glazing, sails and other components relevant to the vessel’s technical assessment.
The approach adopted therefore goes beyond a simple visual inspection and is intended to provide a reliable technical picture that is useful both for decision-making and for negotiation purposes.
Technical Consultancy, Damage, Insurance and Disputes
In addition to pre-purchase surveys, Ceccarelli Yacht Design & Engineering assists owners, buyers, professionals and industry operators with technical consultancy in relation to damage, claims, construction-related issues, insurance valuations, disputes and compliance checks. The studio can also oversee new builds, refits and repairs through technical supervision and process control activities, with the aim of ensuring greater clarity, correct execution and the protection of the client’s interests.
The combination of design experience, direct knowledge of construction and survey practice makes it possible to approach each assignment with a broader perspective than that of a standard inspection alone, offering clients authoritative, independent and genuinely useful technical support.
